Traffic update: Blagdon Hill Road temporary closure
A temporary closure of Blagdon Hill Road will be in place from 4 May 2020.
From 4 May 2020, Blagdon Hill Road will be closed in both directions. An official diversion via Coombe Road will be put in place and clearly signposted.
As well as motor vehicles, cyclists using National Cycle Route 2 will also need to follow this diversion.
The temporary traffic restriction will be in place for up to six weeks.
This closure is needed to lay ducting for the new underground electricity cables. It will also allow us to build a temporary construction road that will keep our vehicles using local roads to a minimum during the building work. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.
The Hardy Monument, along with all National Trust properties, is currently closed and there is no access to the car park. However, should it reopen during our works, access will not be restricted by National Grid or our contractors, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure.
While the closure of Blagdon Hill Road has been agreed with Dorset Council for up to six weeks, we will do all we can to ensure the road reopens as early as practically possible.
The emergency services have been informed of the closure and have been made aware of the diversion. Local schools and school buses will also be told of the closure and the alternative route as they reopen. We would urge all parents and carers to plan ahead to avoid delays.
The Dorset VIP project affects a key part of national infrastructure that keeps the lights on today, tomorrow and into the future. Following a comprehensive review of our programme of work, together with our contractors we are progressing critical elements of the project.
At a time when everyone is being asked to stay at home wherever possible, we understand it can be unnerving to see others going about their daily work. Our people who need to continue working on site and in the community are doing so under stringent health and safety measures to protect not just themselves but also the communities in which they operate, and these measures will be regularly reviewed.
We want to reassure residents and businesses that we are doing all we can to minimise disruption. Throughout the closure, access to homes and businesses along the road will be maintained.
If you have any questions about the planned temporary closure, please get in touch with the VIP project team directly by calling 0330 134 0051 or sending an email to email@example.com.
