Traffic update: Roman Road and Coombe Road temporary closure
A temporary closure of the Roman Road and Coombe Road will be in place during 2020.
Roman Road: Monday 13 – Friday 17 January
From 07:00 on Monday 13 January, the Roman Road will be closed in both directions and diversions will be in effect during this time. The temporary traffic restrictions will be lifted on Friday 17 January at 18:00.
Coombe Road: Saturday 1 February – Friday 10 April
From 07:00 on Saturday 1 February, Coombe Road will be closed in both directions and diversions will be in effect during this time. The temporary traffic restrictions will be lifted on Friday 10 April at 18:00.
Prior to the temporary closure of Coombe Road, two-way traffic lights will be in operation between the hours of 07:00 – 17:00 from Monday 20 January to Friday 31 January to allow our contractor, Morgan Sindall, to begin preparatory work along Coombe Road. The traffic lights will be manned at all times and will be removed overnight. These works will include the removal of hedges and banks once environmental and ecological surveys have been conducted. Throughout, measures will be in place to ensure that no animals are harmed or unnecessarily impacted by our activities.
When Coombe Road reopens in April 2020, a temporary 30mph speed limit and four-way traffic lights will be in place in the area around our new site access points.
The emergency services have been informed of the coming disruption and diversions have been put in place to facilitate the safe movement of vehicles during this time. Local schools have been notified of the planned closure; school buses will continue to operate using an alternative route. We would urge all parents and caregivers to plan ahead.
On behalf of National Grid and our contractors, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, we would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.
