A day on the Dorset site

Cabling is one of the most important things we need to do to complete this project

Cabling is one of the most important things we need to do to complete this project – laying the cables underground is what will allow us to remove the 9km of overhead line.

Our Senior Project Manager, Paul Hamnett, and Morgan Sindall’s Works Manager (Cables), Andy King, have filmed a short video to bring the work to life.

The team dig several ‘pulling pits’, which are needed to pull the cables in order to connect the different sections.  The cables are pulled from the cabling drum through the joint bay where they are connected with the cables we’ve already laid underground.  There is a further pulling pit in the next section with a winch. The winch is needed to remove the risk of runaway cable which is an unlikely risk, but one we need to take extra precautions for given the steep slopes.
