Friar Waddon Road: HGV movements from 23 May 2022

Traffic update for Friar Waddon Road

Over the coming months a limited number of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) will be using Friar Waddon Road to access National Grid’s VIP project site. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

During this period starting from 23 May 2022, up to 14 HGV movements including concrete wagons and construction equipment on low-loaders will be using the local road network via Friar Waddon Road to access the southern section of the VIP site where we are building a new sealing end compound. We anticipate no more than 5 HGV movements a week, and no more than 14 movements until the end of the project.

These vehicles will be travelling through Upwey and along Friar Waddon Road up to the project’s site access points.  They will follow the same route when leaving the site.

The project team will be taking measures to ensure that all drivers are briefed to follow the correct routes and complete their journeys as safely as possible. These are not abnormal loads, however we will escort the vehicles when using the local road network to ensure minimal disruption.

With National Grid coming towards the end of its work on the VIP project, allowing these additional HGV movements will help to accelerate the final phase of the scheme and bring forward the programme of work that will see the overhead lines and pylons removed.

It will also enable the team to start removing the temporary haul road ahead of the busy summer period and then begin fully restoring the land to its original condition.

We want to reassure local residents and businesses that all of the above has been agreed with Dorset Council and that we are doing all we can to minimise disruption.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with the VIP project team directly by calling 0330 134 0051 or sending an email to visualimpact@nationalgrid.com.
