Sparking passion in the next generation of engineers

Local students were recently given the chance to learn more about electricity generation as part of an educational programme designed to bring engineering to life.
Children from schools in the local area have had their eyes opened to a career in engineering through a series of interactive workshops organised by National Grid that are aimed at sparking a passion in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects.
Taking part were a mix of pupils in Key Stages 1 and 2 from local schools including:
- St Nicholas and St Laurence Church of England Primary School
- Winterbourne Valley Church of England Aided First School
- Portesham Church of England Primary School
All of the sessions were run by STEMworks, an educational not-for-profit organisation, which saw the children enthusiastically getting stuck into tasks such as building their own electric bedroom door buzzers.
